Ebb and Flow
AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCE / AMPHITHEATRE
NL (40′)
Ebb and Flow is inspired by the I-Ching or Book of Changes, an ancient Chinese text based on the concept of constant transformation in life, specifically its 42nd hexagram Yi (Increase). Yi speaks of expansion and fullness – yet another cycle of life that blossoms, decays, and achieves rebirth. Ebb and flow, darkness and light, life and death. “What is” springs from “what is not”, and the end of the world is at the same time the beginning of something new.
Lichun (image) works with six 16mm projectors, while Robert (sound) uses analog-generated waveforms to construct, layer, and deconstruct visual and auditory textures. Through the live interplay of image and sound, they create an experience that transcends the senses – one in which the spectator no longer consciously watches or listens, but simply is.
Lichun Tseng is a Taiwanese artist based in the Netherlands. Through 16mm film, installations, and audiovisual performances, she explores the vital dimensions of life and their wholeness. Reflective contemplation is the driving force of her artistic practice.
Robert Kroos is a musician, sound designer, and field recordist from Rotterdam. He creates soundscapes for film, animation, and installations, with a focus on sine waves, binaural recording, and brainwaves.
