HRVOJE HIRŠLHiršl (born 1982) is a conceptual artist exploring and portraying the relationship between natural and technological worlds. Through media such as robotic immersive environments, quantum optics, sound installations, images/drawings and texts, he encourages viewers to reflect and question the boundaries of art and science to better understand their position in reality.

The Split exhibition is realized as part of MKC's Sound-object exhibition series.

The works from the Sound Imprints series are created through a performance in which the artist employs his self-developed technique of stochastic imprinting on aluminum plates. This process was inspired by the 18th-century research of German musician and physicist Ernst Chladni, as well as the principles behind laser printers—which is why the artist refers to it as an “analog laser printer.” These works are part of The Limit of Representation series, which the artist began in 2019 with the aim of transcending the limitations of human perception through artistic processes and attempting to touch the invisible.

Magnetic Recordings is a new project in which the artist is developing a device that can inscribe an invisible layer of data onto an image. This can be applied to almost any type of black pigment, provided it contains Mars Black, a pigment known for its magnetic properties.

In his artistic practice, Hrvoje Hiršl often creates his own techniques and tools, reducing the process of creating a picture almost to the level of pure concept with the intention of deconstructing the medium of painting. As he explains, “paintings are a physical document of the artistic process. It is the creation of a memory, the creation of an imprint, the impression of particles on the surface, the movement of particles under some kind of force.” The event is preserved on the surface.
